_Marina And The Diamonds – Hollywood (Video)

Marina++the+Diamonds+pic3 Marina And The Diamonds Hollywood (Video)Marina (and the diamonds) have released another single from her debut album out in February, which is still missing a tracklist. Marina has been in the states for past couple weeks, according to her personal blog. What other perfect timing to released the video for “Hollywood“, which is full of the American colors, stars, popcorn, burgers, and the dream life.

Directed by Kinga Buzza who has previously directed Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl”, the two videos are very much alike: there’s a big party and there’s cake. They even both look a bit alike as well, including the makeup and the hair.

My favorite line from the song is: “Oh my Gawd, you look like just like Shakira, no no you’re Catherine Zeta. Actually my name’s Marina”

And doesn’t this look like it should be a Vogue photoshoot spread? Although I bet it’s been done a million times already.

_My Gold Mask – Violet Eyes

mygoldmask My Gold Mask Violet Eyes

My Gold Mask is the combination of two people, Gretta Rochelle who is the lead singer and Jack Armondo, who plays the nylon string electric guitar. These Chicagao hipsters aren’t holding back anything.

Gretta’s voice is of like Karen O’s, very screechy and haunting. “We are two people who like to make music together. Together we like to make extrinsic pop within a minimalist context. We hope you like it.” And you know what? We sure do.

Their minimalistic-ness mixed in with the dreamy/indietronica/punkish/rock beats creates the perfect blend to what is called avant alternative music, just like my favorite martini at the bar I always go to. Hell, they should name a drink after “Violet Eyes” or “Gold Mask” or something!

“Violet Eyes” is their first single from an upcoming release, an EP that is slated to be released very soon.

_JvdF Holiday Wallets By Justin Von Der Fehr

IMG 3198BW JvdF Holiday Wallets By Justin Von Der Fehr

This week I’ve been busy procrastinating on actually finishing my work and instead reading a million fashion blogs. I came across a mens accessory designer Justin Von Der Fehr, or JvdF.

His passion started when he was 12, he traded baseball training for a trip to a local Gucci store. He adored the technical world of fashion, as he adored the feel and finished product of the designs. Not until a few years after he actually considered a serious career in the industry. (I don’t know how old he is now)

So far what’s available to purchase from him are custom made lizard skin wallets and bracelets. Each item is hand made and available to order on his website and in Roseark in L.A. Wallets start at $290 and bracelets at $220.

_Simian Mobile Disco – Cruel Intentions (feat. Beth Ditto) (Video)

Just caught this today even though it was released a couple days back. The whole video is taken from a scene in a short film called Study After Cruel Intentions.

The weird needle thing that they injected in the women’s armpits freaked me out for a bit. Gross.

_The xx – Insects

The+xx+xx The xx Insects

“Insects” is a new b-side to The xx’s single “VCR”. It’s only two minutes long but still carries the traditional minimalistic melody that they are known for. Surely this tune may have not made the cut for their debut album, but it’s definitely good enough for people who haven’t heard of them to seduce them into their music.

What I love about The xx is their smoky, dark sound. Earlier this month, Baria quit the band in the middle of their hectic touring schedule.

Huge thanks to P&P

I just want to say Happy Thanksgiving for all you Americans, and even if you’re not celebrating Thanksgiving, I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone. Thanks for being so supportive.

Thank you to ALL my contributers, my writers, and the people who help me out on everything. Thanks to you readers, as well. Vinyl and Vodka just started a couple of months ago and hopefully it will continue to grow in content and I hope you share this blog with the rest of your friends!

Our online magazine will debut pretty soon, within a week. There’s still tons left to do but you guys motivate me so much.

A big thank you to Luis from Pretty Much Amazing, especially, for helping me with absolutely everything and supporting me this whole time.

p.s. I really want to expand and experiment with this blog so I’ll hopefully post other things than just music. Let me know what you think!

p.p.s. Sometimes Mediafire doesn’t work for me when uploading things, what other file uploading sites should do you prefer?

_NSFW: Yeasayer – Ambling Amp (Music Video)

Yeasayer’s video to “Ambling Amp” has got to be one of the trippiest ones yet this year. The band gets their face covered in some mustard yellow goo-ey mud, getting their faces squished by another human’s hand while singing, and getting their faces transported out of their head by a glittery gold tube, this definitely is trippiest video of the year, hands down.

Oh yeah, and there are naked people staring at things too.

_Lykke Li – “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” (Live Cover)

Lykke+Li+Image+3 Lykke Li Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (Live Cover)

After exploding the charts up with her first album “Youth Novels” one would assume that it’s time to take a break and relax a bit. Lykke Li is doing the exact opposite, she’s getting back on the wagon train and making more music. Even though this track is a cover of an excellent Shirelles song. It’s always nice to hear a new take on a personal favorite. Especially when done by Lykke Li! Her voice is hardly there, but profound at the same time. It’s an excellent contrast. It’s also nice to see that she is capable of making music on a sentimental side and that she is able to deviate from her Indie roots and come out with something meaningful and deep.

Check out the video here to see her perform it live in a strange candlelit setting, shot with a very obscure angle. Hopefully Lykke Li keeps up the great work. She has a very ecclectic side to her music, making her stand apart from everything else out there in the indie music scene. This cover is just one great example her uniqueness. She can take a more upbeat song and give it an entirely new edge.
