_Lana Del Rey x Clams Casino & Woodkid – “Born To Die”

LDR Lana Del Rey x Clams Casino & Woodkid Born To Die

The Lana Del Rey buzz isn’t ending anytime soon, with her “Born To Die” single being released next week and the album the week after. I’ve hated most of the remixes that I have heard so far, but these two by Clams Casino and Woodkid have caught my attention.

The Clams Casino re-work seems to be a hit and miss depending on different people because of its heavy, experimental trance, which I believe could’ve been cut and distorted even further. The Woodkid remix (who is actually the director of the video) sounds like the original, only to be accompanied by a symphony orchestra and a marching band. Not bad, they both sound quite divine in a haunting (Clams) and elegant (Woodkid) way.

_Drake x Rihanna x Jamie xx – “Take Care”

Rihanna Drake Grammy Performance1 Drake x Rihanna x Jamie xx Take Care

Drake’s album Take Care is full of stellar collaborations. Here’s to another outstanding cut from Drake’s title track, “Take Care”. This time it’s a trio featuring pop superstar Rihanna and Jamie xx – each with different but heavy followings.

Producing this track is Jamie xx, who works his magic bringing his signature minimal sound mixed with a hip hop beat. Drake and Rihanna is left singing to each other about a building relationship and broken hearts. After 3 minutes of Drake pleading Rihanna to let him in her life, the song takes a 360 flip into a Gil Scott-Heron-sampling dance beat, then back into Rihanna’s verse. It’s no secret that Jamie xx loves Gil Scott-Heron, and it’s great to hear Jamie sampling him in a Drake track. (more…)

_Drake x The Weeknd – “Crew Love”

If there’s any more reason to love Drake, it’s got to be this collaboration with The Weeknd. A Toronto radio station just recently premiered the 6 minute tagged version of “Crew Love”, while a 3 and a half minute version was just leaked along with his entire album, Take Care. It’s nice to hear an artist’s love for their hometown and respect for their success, which is present in this ethereal track. Damn, that beat is just way too good. (more…)
