_Crystal Castles x HEALTH – “Suffocation” (& Music Video)

It’s been a couple years since I’ve heard of any new releases from Crystal Castles. Yesterday, Crystal Castles released their new music video for “Suffocation”, and their friends HEALTH gave the song a proper remix. It’s darker, gothier, sexier. Download it:

_Portico Quartet – “Steepless” (Dogtanion remix)

A friend of mine posted Dogtanion’s remix of “Steepless” by Portico Quartet on facebook, both artists unknown to me. Being hungover and bored on a Saturday, I proceeded to listen to it, and I’m glad I did. The original is hauntingly beautiful as well.

Thanks Kara!

_Lana Del Rey x Clams Casino & Woodkid – “Born To Die”

LDR Lana Del Rey x Clams Casino & Woodkid Born To Die

The Lana Del Rey buzz isn’t ending anytime soon, with her “Born To Die” single being released next week and the album the week after. I’ve hated most of the remixes that I have heard so far, but these two by Clams Casino and Woodkid have caught my attention.

The Clams Casino re-work seems to be a hit and miss depending on different people because of its heavy, experimental trance, which I believe could’ve been cut and distorted even further. The Woodkid remix (who is actually the director of the video) sounds like the original, only to be accompanied by a symphony orchestra and a marching band. Not bad, they both sound quite divine in a haunting (Clams) and elegant (Woodkid) way.

_Lana Del Rey – “Video Games” (Club Clique For The Bad Girls Remix)

I’ve only heard of a couple of Lana Del Rey‘s songs and I’ve already fallen in love with her. Everything from her look to her music is visually stunning. Club Clique is remixing both “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans” for her double a-side, but for now we only get to hear their take on “Video Games“. It’s definitely a more polished pop-dance track, with a solid beat and glimpses of glitter magic spread throughout the track.

_Alex Winston – “Velvet Elvis” (RAC Remix)

This is my first time listening to Alex Winston (actually I made myself listen to the original before this remix) and I’m loving her so far. Remix Artist Collective mixed “Velvet Elvis” into a sweet, more poppy tune, a track that definitely needs more hype. Listen to the original on her Soundcloud account here.

_Patrick Wolf – “Time Of My Life” (Hurts Remix)

Everything about the HURTS remix of Patrick Wolf’s “Time of My Life” seems so perfect – it’s a remix meant to be. The original was already great, but this remix provides a more dramatic side of the track. Just like their remix of Lady Gaga’s “Judas”, HURTS injected a lot of more dramatic elements to make the song seem darker and more mysterious, like the use of orchestral instruments.

“Blink and You’ll Miss a Revolution” is Cut Copy’s next single, taken from their highly praised Zonoscope LP. Along with this single release will come many remixes of the track, including Henning Fürst, Black Moth, Kenji Takimi, and our favorite, Toro Y Moi. Check it out:

_The Weeknd – “The Morning” (Prince Club Edit)

weeknd The Weeknd The Morning (Prince Club Edit)

The Weeknd couldn’t be generalized as dance music, not even close at all. But once you add a sick house beat to one of my favorite Weeknd tracks “The Morning“, magic happens. This Prince Club Edit isn’t a big change to the original, but at the same time it is.
