_RISING: Yoyo Eskimo – “Into The Night” & “All I Need”

YO 04b RISING: Yoyo Eskimo Into The Night & All I Need

Yoyo Eskimo is a quadruple-pieced band hailing from London, with only a couple of songs having been released, including their first single “Into The Night”. The freshly joined group bounded at the beginning of this year, and so far their songs are pretty impressive for a new band. If you listen to these next indie-tronic-pop tracks, “Into The Night” and “All I Need”, you can hear an already distinct sound and image they are going for, with modern influences such as Hot Chip and Foals threaded within the tunes.

_Shadows on Stars – “Now You’re Mine”

If you’re in the mood for some bright indie pop, then Shadows on Stars is for you. I have never heard of them until Confusion from P&P posted about the mysterious duo, but I’m loving their debut song, “Now You’re Mine“. The track is a vibrant, fuzzy pop song with distorted vocals, with frequent comparisons to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. If anything, they sound more “Pains of Being Pure at Heart” to me.

P.s. You can download the song by clicking on one of the dots in the image by mousing over it. So cool!

_Adele – “Set Fire To The Rain” (Plastic Plates Remix)

Adele just can’t stop getting hotter. I haven’t even begun to get sick of Jame xx’s remix of “Rolling in the Deep”, and another great remix surpasses by me. This one is by Plastic Plates, who have remixed her current single “Set Fire To The Rain”. Adele makes a great voice to disco/dance tracks, similar to Beth Ditto.

_RISING: Alpine – “Villages”

l 8c59d65b31024e8a8a8b280b9caaf2cd RISING: Alpine Villages

I love receiving emails from you guys. Sometimes you  email me about bands that I should listen to and post, and I usually end up pushing it aside to later. But eventually, I get through all of your mail and end up with gems like this band: Alpine. So keep on emailing me, I love to communicate with my readers and I promise to get back to you!

Alpine is a rising indie pop act from Melbourne. They consist of 6 members, 2 of which (Louisa & Phoebe) take turns melting our hearts with their warm, soothing vocals. Out with just one EP release, they’ve already set out their distinct enchanting pop-rock sound. From what I’ve heard so far, their EP Zurich isn’t too in-your-face, but far enough to grasp your full attention, and wanting more. For a band with just their first and only release last year, they definitely seem to be mellow and developed.

Below is their dazzling and sophisticated music video to “Villages”.

Also, check out some other tracks by them, and get their EP on iTunes here

_Sky Ferreira x Skeet Skeet – Happy Dre

l 9644af84f22d42d6b853f97d227b9eb2 Sky Ferreira x Skeet Skeet Happy Dre

Sky Ferreira has been on my radar for the past couple weeks, when a buddy of mine first introduced me to her. And wow, she is talented, especially for a 17 year old.

She covered The Beatles‘ “Happiness Is A Warm Gun” a while back, and DJ Skeet Skeet has taken this cover and revamped it over one of the most recognizable beats by Dr. Dre out there.

I hope Sky releases her debut album as soon as possible because I’m craving more and more of her every day.

_Oona – Tore My Heart

OonaSideBySideVan hires 950px Oona Tore My Heart

I haven’t been watching So You Think You Can Dance at all this season. I’ve always watched every season and haven’t missed a single episode, but when it’s during the fall where we all have work and school, I don’t have time for it. I’m probably going to watch the whole season on my computer during the Holiday break without all the crap commercials and fillers.

Anyways, thanks to Luis from PMA who has been watching the show, he discovered a new artist during one of the performances choreographed by Sonya (one of my favorite choreographers on that show!). Her name is Oona, who sings the vocals and Dave who produces and plays the instruments.

Nigel Lythgoe said that the dance to “Tore My Heart” reminded him of Sonya’s other memorable piece to “Garden” by Mirah. I actually think Oona sounds quite like Mirah as well. Stephen Bradley (who is a constant touring member of No Doubt) is featured in this song as well, playing the trumpet in the second half of the song.

Check out her/their Myspace and website which have a few other songs by them.

_Israel Darling – Samson The Mason

Israel+Darling+Last Israel Darling Samson The Mason

Israel Darling is made up of several members, including Jacob Darden, Mike Bannerman, Jeff Bechtel, Isaac Crouch, Anna Harris, Mat Masterson, Edwin Mericle, and Ben Welner, all located in North Carolina. (they don’t have any pictures with all of them in it) The history behind the band name is a completely different story itself. (which will be further explained in my magazine being released next week)

The first thing that captured me to listen to this band was listening to their first single, “Samson The Mason”. The beautiful string of guitars in the beginning of the track and the touching lyrics got to me the first time I listened—and I wanted more.

The lines “When I’m gone tell my mother I love thee/ Sorry your son turned out to be/ Nothing more than a liar and a thief/ A Drug Addict With Crooked Teeth” “ starts the album, and then breaks out to a series of chanting “Hey Hey’s”. Then when you keep on listening you will notice a strong consistency of good, upbeat but calming beats. This is what talent in songwriting and singing sounds like.

If you’re a Modest Mouse and Broken Social Scene you have to check out this band, I promise you will fall in love.

_Solid Gold – Matter of Time

1(20) Solid Gold Matter of Time

Minneapolis dark synth pop band Solid Gold has been on our radar for quite some time now. We’ve also had several opportunities to chat with these fine young gentlemen about their lives as musicians twice, back in our Mossip days. Also, me being a Minneapolis native i am a huge fan of their work and am always anxious to hear anything new from them.

Here is a new single from them entitled “Matter of Time”. In this track Solid Gold sticks with what they know and that’s creating lush ethereal dreamscapes accompanied by melancholic lyrics. Take a listen, you will notice their style hasn’t changed much. But, why change what is already very very exceptional, right?

All their success so far is astounding, especially since they were just signed to Green Label Sound home of fellow synther’s such as Matt & Kim and Chairlift. It’s great to see these guys still making some awesome music and I hope to see plenty more now with Green Label backing them as a record company.
