Cults, the anonymous band (not anymore, although they still don’t have a Myspace)  we were all awing about because of the release of “Go Outside” are releasing a free single called “Oh My God” for the Kia x Adult Swim singles project.

The song starts off with a drum beat accompanied by people talking in the background, then comes Madeline’s sweet voice (did you know that she used to be in a punk band?). Listening to this song I quickly realized their signature: a xylophone being played in the same tome as each syllable that she sings.

Passion Pit, yeah they’re undeniable. Fine, fresh, fierce, they’ve got it on lock. I’m a big fan of Passion Pit and their remixes, and they’ve chosen to remix Katy Perry’s “California Gurls”. Admit it or not, “California Gurls” is a very, very catchy tune. It’s hard for me to not sing it all the time.

They haven’t done much to the track other than slow down the tempo (Katy’s voice is noticeably lower) and add a track behind her voice. But it works.

EDIT: Now that I have watched this video, I am stunned! There is so much violence in this that my jaw dropped and I was covering my mouth because of the violence in this video. I don’t get it though.

The Drums have released the music video for “Best Friend“, one that apparently two of the guys wrote together for the first time. Throughout the video the lead singer just prances around the room.

These guys are so trendy, it kills me!

I’ve always wanted to get into Jersey Shore but I never got the time – it’s something I want to do though. Everyone talks about it! I feel like I’m missing out. I’ve only seen half of an episode once and it was funny!

Snooki interviewed French rockers Phoenix on the red carpet of the Grammy Awards on Sunday. Why am I posting this? Because it is HILARIOUS. She teaches them what the term guido is and she tells that one guy that he looks like Edward Cullen from Twilight.

My new favorite indie pop band from L.A. From has finally been remixed by Jacob Safari who has also remixed the likes of Major Lazer. And guess what track he remixed? The amazing Beastie Boys cover that they sang in French, “Fight For Your Right”

Jacob made this track more addicting than it already was. With the electrifying instrumental to the echos of Roni’s voice, how could you not listen to this over and over again?

This track not only brings back the fun of discovering the Beastie Boys classic, it’s also an exciting, innovative take on “I Feel Love” and an addictive one at that. Jacob Safari is currently completing new singles and remixes, as well as producing and mixing new work from Signals and a collaborative electro-pop project with Rebecca Taylor from Slow Club. He will be DJing on November 16 at Dragonfly in Santa Monica.

Skream’s new Remix of Bat for Lashes’s song “Pearl’s  Dream” butchers the etherial song with a jittery remix-101  background  beat that anyone’s little brother could whip up in ten minutes.

While I’m a huge advocate of remixes (see my previous post about the Ting Tings RAC remix), Skream should take a step back and think again before blasting such a weak song revamp for the world to hear.

Bat for Lashes – “Pearls Dream” (Skream Remix)Stream

Madonna’s “Revolver” has been playing on my iTunes for the past couple of days, and I was surprised to find I actually like it. I haven’t really been all that into Madonna’s recent work, it just isn’t that great. “Revolver” comes off her two disc Greatest Hits Cd “Celebration,” and it is a modern club song that will be easily played often on Top 40 stations. It has a synthesized beat that is more like a mix between Britney Spears’ “Radar,” and the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s latest disc ‘It’s Blitz!’

This song should suit Madonna well, now in her fifties, it puts her right back in the mix of what is coming out of much younger pop artists today.

Since it is so similiar to Spears’ “Radar,” the thought that keeps running through my mind is that would Britney have sounded better on this? It’s hard to tell, since the highlight of this song really isn’t the voice of the artist, but more on the beat and hook . (Madonna just adds the hype) Lil’ Wayne adds a hip “radio necessity” interlude too which plays right along with the theme of the track.

Mika is back to thrill us with kitschy pop and happy times. His latest release, “Blame it On the Girls” comes right off the back of his first single, “We Are Golden” from his upcoming album of the same title, being released stateside, September 21.

The track follows typical Mika-style with the usual snaps and clicks and stomps and piano jams, but in a noticeably updated style. Lyrically it feels a little more creative, and there’s definitely a lot more dimension to his new music. He’s definitely exploring his options production-wise. This one sort of reminds me of “Billy Brown” in the way that it sort of follows the story of one troubled man in the same lighthearted, nothing-too-seriously spirit that Mika has made us love him for. Make sure you catch the first few seconds of the full version (below) to hear the creative little mini-monologue that sets up the premise.

Musically, Mika is back for his sophomore release. We’re anxious to see the theatrics he brings to the stage this time around. Check out the US tour dates… several shows are already sold out!

Check out this great band from Minneapolis, Total Babe! Armed with a quirky name and an even quirkier attitude, this trio blends Dream pop music with a stylized folk structure. Each song off their new EP – Heatwave – is brimming with personality .

I have uploaded two songs from the EP, “BearBones” and “Gary Coleman“,  my two personal favorites from the album.
