Another video has been made for a track from Beth Ditto’s debut solo EP in collaboration with Simian Mobile Disco, this time called “I Wrote The Book”. If the scenes/vibe/cinematography seems familiar, it’s because she’s paying an homage to Madonna. Work it sister.

_Beth Ditto – “Open Heart Surgery”

This came as a surprise to me, as I haven’t heard any news about this release. Beth Ditto has released a 4 track EP in collaboration with Simian Mobile Disco, which is a great collaboration (remember “Cruel Intentions”?) Her first single (solo from Gossip) and standout track is titled “Open Heart Surgery”, which captures the essence of an early 90′s track. It’s a good song, but sounds like a part two of “Cruel Intentions”. It would’ve been nice for them to expand their sound a bit more.

Just caught this today even though it was released a couple days back. The whole video is taken from a scene in a short film called Study After Cruel Intentions.

The weird needle thing that they injected in the women’s armpits freaked me out for a bit. Gross.

It’s a must! Simian Mobile Disco, an English production and remix team, is often known for their minimal instrumentals and captivating hooks. The team took a turn away from their crazy disco beats in their newest album, Temporary Pleasure. However, “Cruel Intentions” featuring Gossip’s Beth Ditto, still resembles the group’s signature “dance, have a good time” ways and gets remix attention that can do no wrong.

Bristol’s Joker remixed “Cruel Intentions” to perfection. Still heavy on the synths and bass, the song gains more of a house/electro appeal, which gives Ditto’s basically untouched vocals in the chorus a little R&B feel in contrast.

Keep your eyes and ears on the Joker; his remixes are shaping up to be some of the best of the year!
