_Jónsi – “Time To Pretend” (MGMT Cover)

I’m always interested when a musical artist covers another, especially if they are both different genres and the artist covering it adds their own ‘signature’ to it. It’s an artist’s way of celebrating a song that they like. If the end result is good, then both of the artist’s fan loves it. I haven’t really heard any horrible covers though.

Just today Jónsi posted streams of his BBC Radio 1 live lounge performances and interview on his website. For one of the live performances he sang a dazzling piano rendition of “Time To Pretend” by MGMT. Fans of both MGMT and Jónsi will love this.

You can now stream the entire MGMT album, ‘Congratulations’, over at their website WHOISMGMT.com. Apparently the album leaked so they decided to officially put it out to stream:

“Hey everybody, the album leaked, and we wanted you to be able to hear it from us. We wanted to offer it as a free download but that didn’t make sense to anyone but us”

Yesterday MGMT released a song “Flash Delirium” from Congratulations, their sophomore album that they stated wouldn’t have any singles or ‘standout tracks’. It was released for free via their website. The cover is a bit eerie, it’s a bee’s eye view of a human eye.

I personally don’t love this track. I’m actually not sure what I feel about it, it’s a bit different than songs like “Electric Feel” and “Kids”. It sounds a bit David Bowie-esque. Don’t get me wrong, I like this, but it’s just not what I was expecting.

_MGMT Reveals Album Art for ‘Congratulations’

MGMT Congratulations MGMT Reveals Album Art for Congratulations

What do you think? It’s a bit wild but a whole lot of fun.

One thing I find interesting about this album is that MGMT said they weren’t going to release any singles from the album so people would listen to the album as a whole instead of listening to their only singles. They also said that they wanted to see which tracks jumped out to the listeners.

One single that I’m already interested in is #8 off the tracklist, titled “Lady Dada’s Nightmare“. Hmmm…

So I’m confused, are they not releasing any singles at all? I hope they eventually do.

_Chiddy Bang – Opposite Of Adults (Music Video)

DAMN. I should have listened to Luis last year when he told me to listen to some Chiddy Bang. This is my first listen of this duo and I am hooked! What was wrong with me back then?

Anyways, last year they sampled MGMT’s “Kids” and rapped over it, titling it “Kids” featuring MGMT. Guess they decided to change it and call it “Opposite of Adults”. I hate the video though. But I guess I like really weird, creative things so this video suits the song and the artist’s vision.

_Kid Cudi – Pursuit Of Happiness (feat. MGMT & Ratatat) (Music Video)

I have to admit I’m not big into rappers or into the hip hop scene like what other blogs are posting. And you might hate me for this, but I don’t know who the fuck Gucci Mane is. He’s been blogged about a million times, but I haven’t a clue of him or his music. Apparently he got arrested last month?

Anyways, I’m getting off-topic. Other than Kanye West, Kid Cudi is one of the only rappers I listen to. And he’s pretty damn good. His collaboration with MGMT and Ratatat in “Pursuit Of Happiness” is my favorite by him, and they released the video for it, sans MGMT & Ratatat, but with an appearance by Drake.

_MGMT Titles New Album, ‘Congratulations’

MGMT+Interview+magazine+scan MGMT Titles New Album, CongratulationsConfirmed by their label, ‘Congratulations’ is the title of the upcoming, highly anticipated sophomore album by MGMT, NME reports.

That is all that any of us know of the album, other than that it is going to be released early 2010 and that the duo is recording the album in Malibu, where they are surfing.

MGMT have also been performing several new songs at concerts lately, especially the title track “Congratulations”, which is a more slower, and ‘pretty dark’, as Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT explains. (I don’t think it sounds dark at all!) Listen below and judge for yourself.
